Symptoms of heatstroke in dogs are unsteady, fast and rapid breathing; very high rectal temperature; hunger and thirst; fatigue and weakness; frequent vomiting; red and shiny tongue with white discharge; skin around the neck and nostrils that does not recover after compression; difficulty breathing; lethargy; heavy and thick saliva; and rapid heart rate. Dogs should be kept indoors as much as possible in the summer, avoid going out in the middle of the day and keep well hydrated.
