What are the symptoms of gastroenteritis in dogs?

Gastroenteritis problems in dogs can be divided into the following categories: bacterial gastroenteritis, viral gastroenteritis, parasitic gastroenteritis, allergic gastroenteritis and foreign body gastroenteritis. All of these gastroenteritis problems can cause abnormal symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, decreased mental state, decreased appetite and even elimination of food. However, the contents of the vomit and diarrhoea may vary depending on the cause. In older dogs, serious medical conditions such as liver disease, kidney disease, pancreatitis, pus in the uterus and heart disease can also cause gastroenteritis in dogs. Therefore, when a dog shows signs and symptoms of gastroenteritis, it is usually advisable to go to a professional veterinary hospital for examination and diagnosis before treating the symptoms to avoid misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis.
