The causes of shortness of breath in dogs

The most common signs of shortness of breath in dogs are when they have just been exercised or when it is hot. There are no sweat glands on the dog’s body, only a few at the paw crease, and more heat is dissipated through the tongue and breathing, from the dog’s mouth. After exercise and in hot weather, dogs breathe faster to get the heat out of their bodies and their tongues become particularly wide at this time of day, allowing them to dissipate heat more effectively. It is normal for dogs to breathe rapidly under these conditions.
