Dogs are best shaved in the summer months when parasites are more active. However, it is best not to shave the dog’s body, as the hair is part of the dog’s skin immune barrier. If shaved, the skin is exposed to airborne dirt and bacteria, and the high summer temperatures and direct UV light can lead to skin diseases. Other dogs may become unhappy or even depressed because their hair is shaved.
