The main symptoms of roundworms in dogs are generally progressive weight loss, whitening of the visible mucous membranes, malnutrition, a coarse, unkempt coat, loss of appetite, vomiting and occasionally worms in the vomitus. Heterophilia, digestive dysfunction, palpation, septal palpation of the intestinal canal, and in large numbers of parasitic worms the canal can be felt as an overlapping boundary. There are signs of abdominal pain and occasional barking in the affected dog. In cases of entrapment or obstruction, the dog’s general condition deteriorates and it does not defecate. In addition, coughing may occur as the worms migrate through the lungs and in severe cases may cause symptoms of pneumonia and an increase in body temperature.
