Cats with otitis media will show pain, frequent head shaking, frequent scratching of the hind limbs, heavy discharge from the ear canal, and redness and swelling of the ear canal. This condition requires daily cleaning of the ear canal, medication, oral antibiotics with painkillers or anti-itch medication, and wearing an Elizabethan ring. Severe cases may result in perforation of the eardrum.
