The main symptoms of heatstroke in dogs include increased body temperature, rapid heartbeat, vomiting and heavy panting. Red gums and tongue appear in the dog’s cavity, profuse and excessive drooling, lack of body coordination, seizures, bloody diarrhoea, lapsed consciousness and shock. The main treatments are: 1. First untie the dog’s collar. Chest straps and other wraps covering clothing, items hanging from the dog, 2. Quickly move away from the hot environment. Move the dog to a cool place and blow on an electric fan to cool it down. If the dog is lucid, give a moderate amount of water but do not force feed. 3. Cold water can be splashed on the dog. Alternatively, immerse the dog in water, but be careful to support the dog’s head with your hand, keeping the top of the neck above the surface of the water to avoid choking on the water. While soaking, you can gently massage the dog’s entire body. It helps to achieve a cooling effect.
