The Pakistani sand cat lives in the grasslands covered with sand dunes and gravel, and is a nocturnal animal that rarely moves during the day and comes out at night to feed, mainly on small rodents such as rabbits, and occasionally on small birds and lizards. Every spring is their breeding season, during which the male sand cats will howl loudly to attract the attention of the females. Young sand cats are born in May each year, with 2-5 in each litter and up to 10. Although the rate of birth is high, the young are often eaten by hawks and snakes as they nest in the grass on the ground, so the survival rate is not high, usually only 1-2 per litter.
