Calcium supplements such as solid calcium tablets and liquid calcium can be given. Liquid calcium is generally recommended as it is less irritating to the dog’s gastrointestinal tract than solid calcium and is better absorbed. Dogs do not need calcium supplements at all ages, but generally during the pre-adolescent period and during lactation. Dogs with calcium deficiency will generally have an unsteady gait and wobbly walk.
