Coccidiosis in dogs is first diagnosed by faecal collection, using the saturated saline float method, where oocysts are found in the faeces. In acute symptoms, the faeces will discharge blood-thick faeces and the epithelial cells of the intestinal mucosa are shed. The animal quickly loses weight, has pale mucous membranes, has a slight fever in secondary infections and may sometimes show signs of vomiting, to be diagnosed in conjunction with the symptoms.
