How to Breed a Dog

Generally speaking, most dogs come into first heat at around 6-8 months of age, which means that the dog is sexually mature, but not fully physically mature. Therefore, dogs in heat for the first time are not suitable for breeding. Normally, the earliest time a dog can be bred is when it is in its second normal heat. This is when the dog is around 1 and 2 years old, which means that the dog is physically and sexually mature enough to start breeding.
