A dog’s gestation period is around 56 to 62 days. During pregnancy you should pay attention to nutritional intake and exercise. You can give your dog calcium supplements to avoid postpartum syndrome, but you should also control the amount of food you eat to avoid difficult births due to overgrowth of the foetus. If the dog has not gone into labour for more than 65 days, there is a risk of obstructed labour, at which point the dog will need to be taken to hospital for examination and, if necessary, a caesarean section.
