Dogs generally need at least three months to recuperate from a fracture, with full recovery taking about five months. Puppies will heal faster than adults and will need to be reviewed regularly for healing. The fracture needs to be treated according to the extent of the fracture, so it is advisable to have the fracture diagnosed promptly. Internal fixation is generally the best way to repair the fracture, but if the fracture is just a general one, external fixation and limited exercise can be used to recuperate at home.
