Feline infectious peritonitis is caused by the mutation of the coronavirus in the body following infection with the coronavirus. There are two clinical categories of transmissible peritoneum, one is dry and the other is wet. Common symptoms include decreased mental appetite, gradual wasting, shortness of breath and anaemia. At a later stage, pleural and abdominal effusions may occur. The disease has a high mortality rate and there is no definite cure, although there are now effective drugs available.
