How do cats get rabies?

Under normal circumstances domestic cats can also be susceptible to rabies because their saliva may also contain rabies virus. When the rabies virus is present in the saliva of cats, it can be easily transmitted to humans through cat bites or scratches, making it possible for humans to get rabies. Therefore, normal cat bites and scratches should be cleaned and treated with rabies vaccine and tetanus medication if necessary.
