Early signs of rickets in dogs

Rickets in dogs, also known as chondrodysplasia, has early symptoms of reduced appetite, indigestion, heterophilia, mental inactivity, prolonged teething and a lustrous coat. As the disease progresses, developmental stagnation, wasting, severe lameness, enlarged epiphyses, deformation of weight-bearing long bones, O- or X-shaped legs, and in severe cases, recumbency, painful deformation of the bones and even paralysis can occur.
