Dogs cutting their vocal cords

There are two options for canine vocal cord removal. Option 1: Vocal reduction The vocal cords are removed from the mouth after anaesthesia, usually not completely removed, to reduce the volume of barking, and in some dogs the vocal cords recover after a number of years. Option 2: Muffling The vocal cords are completely removed through a laryngeal incision, which reduces the volume of barking considerably and there is little re-growth of the vocal cords. Both procedures require attention to diet and bleeding after surgery.
