Dog tetanus management

Treatment of tetanus in dogs: early detection and treatment will give a higher chance of cure. The principles of treatment are generally to enhance care, eliminate the pathogen, neutralise the toxin, release the spasm and other related symptomatic treatment.1. Enhance care: place the dog in a clean and dark environment, pay attention to warmth if it is winter, and ensure the surrounding area is quiet. If the dog has difficulty eating, give easy-to-digest and nutritious food and provide sufficient water. 2. Eliminate pathogens: Clean the dog’s wound promptly, dispose of foreign bodies and necrotic tissue, clean and disinfect with 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1% potassium permanganate or 5%-10% tincture of iodine, and inject streptomycin around the wound to eliminate infection. 3. 4.
