Gentamicin is not recommended for puppies with diarrhoea. Cold, parasitic infections and viral infections can all cause diarrhoea in puppies. Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside broad-spectrum antibiotic that can be used to treat bacterial infections of the intestinal tract, but like parasitic infections and viral disease infections drinking gentamicin is not effective. Therefore, if owners are unable to determine what is causing their puppy’s diarrhoea, it is recommended that they take it to the hospital for examination and do not use private medication to avoid aggravating the dog’s condition.
