Do female dogs menstruate?

A female dog will have her period, commonly known as oestrus. Dogs are seasonal animals in heat, normally twice a year, mostly in spring and autumn, but also in winter and summer depending on the dog’s constitution, but less so in spring and autumn. The duration of oestrus in dogs is usually around 2 weeks, with a few days more or less normal due to individual differences in performance.
