Dogs need to be vaccinated against rabies every year, as the effect of the rabies vaccine is not permanent and usually wears off after about 1 year and needs to be given again. Dogs are generally vaccinated to, in fact, prevent six major diseases, the first being rabies, the second being canine influenza, the third being micro-virus as well as hepatitis, and then distemper and leptospirosis. Some of these vaccines are live, some are weak viruses and some are dead viruses. So it is important to follow your doctor’s instructions when it comes to vaccinations.
