The normal skin temperature for dogs is 37 degrees to 39 degrees. If the dog’s skin temperature is above 39 degrees Celsius but below 39.8 degrees Celsius, the fever is low. In this case, the owner can try to lower the room temperature by blowing a fan on the dog, wiping the dog’s bare skin and foot pads with a warm towel, wrapping some ice packs around the dog with a towel to physically cool the dog, and checking the dog’s temperature once every half hour to an hour. It is important not to use alcohol or other volatile substances directly on the dog’s foot pads as this will only take the temperature off the surface of the dog’s body, but not the heat inside. If your dog’s temperature does not come down after two hours or if it is already over 39.8 degrees Celsius at the beginning, it is recommended that you seek medical attention at the vet to confirm the diagnosis and treat the symptoms.
