The extremely coarse and hard coat is one of the characteristics unique to the Chinese Shar Pei. They are alert, intelligent, majestic, aristocratic, sullen, calm and proud, neutral by nature and a little aloof from strangers, but devoting all their love to their families. The Shar Pei appears calm and confident even when standing still.
