The Welsh Terrier is a breed of dog born in England and originated in the 19th century. It was first recognised by the British Dog Breeders’ Club in 1886. Two years later it was introduced to the United States. The Welsh Terrier is a solid, compact, solid small dog with a rough, uneven coat. The legs, lower body and head are fawn in colour, with a black (sometimes grey) ‘jacket’ on the back and other areas. The tail is broken, making it a “square” dog, with a body length roughly equal to the height at the shoulder. Its gait is typical of a long-legged terrier type dog at a trot. Easy, stretchy and well driven. The Welsh Terrier is very friendly and gets along well with other people and dogs when out and about.
