It is recommended to take your dog to the vet for an otoscopy or ear discharge examination, as ear itch mites cannot be observed directly by the naked eye. If ear itch mite infection is diagnosed, it is recommended to use medication that inhibits the reproduction of ear itch mites. Ear tickling mite infection is a common disease that is spread mainly through direct contact and occurs in areas such as unclean environments. Ear itch mite infection can cause infectious otitis externa, which is highly contagious, with clinical manifestations such as itchy ears, frequent scratching of the ears and increased discharge from the ear canal. Frequent scratching of the external ear canal by the affected cat may lead to scratching of the external ear canal and even to a more serious ear haematoma. The discharge from the ear canal is usually a brownish-black crust-like exudate with a distinctive smell.
