Canine Hookworm Disease

Canine hookworm and narrow-headed hookworm disease occur mostly in the summer months. In severe infections, sick dogs show a loss of appetite or no food, vomiting and dysentery typical symptoms of excreted faeces with blood and a black, coffee or tarry colour. Regular deworming is the key, once a month for puppies under 6 months and once every 3 months for dogs over 6 months of age. Dewormers include: levamisole, avermectin (forbidden in Collies), albendazole, etc.
