Penicillin can be given orally to dogs, but it is important to monitor the dog for allergic reactions after administration of penicillin. Generally the symptoms of allergy to penicillin in dogs are mild and the main clinical manifestations are sweating, excitement, restlessness, difficulty in breathing, rapid heart rate, sometimes visible as head and facial oedema, and in severe cases shock, which can lead to rapid death if not rescued in time.
