Black-footed cats (scientific name: Felis nigripes) get their name from the black markings on the soles of their feet. Black-footed cats weigh an average of 1.6 kg and have cinnamon to teal or almost white fur with black spots, black markings on the shoulders and black rings on the feet and tail. Black-footed cats are nocturnal and are one of the smallest species of wild feline, but are capable of attacking small sheep four times their size. Black-footed cats are mainly found in Africa in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and countries such as Zimbabwe and Angola.
