Most of the ancestors of cats lived in grassland or desert areas and by nature prefer a warm, dry environment. If the difference in temperature between indoors and outdoors is too great, cats can easily catch a cold, or in severe cases, a disease. Long-haired cats from colder regions may be more resistant to the cold, but in general cats like warm places. Long-haired cats are thicker than short-haired cats and are naturally more resistant to the cold than short-haired cats, but are still afraid of the cold.
