Puppies can defecate on their own after one month of age, at which point if the owner provides the correct guidance or training, then in about a week’s time they will be able to recognize a spotting toilet and defecate on their own. However, fixed-point toilets generally refer to pee pads or blankets, and it is best not to let puppies use human toilets, otherwise accidents that fall into the toilet are likely to occur. When guiding a puppy to defecate, you can first dip a paper towel into the dog’s urine and place it directly on the pee pad so that the puppy will follow the scent to the toilet when it wants to urinate. You can also observe the behavioral characteristics of the puppy before defecation, and when it wants to go to the toilet, the owner will immediately hold it to the pee pad and wait for it to defecate on its own. If it defecates on the pee pad, give a timely reward, such as a dog food or the owner’s petting, as long as it knows that it is right to do so.
