Dogs can breathe like they are panting during labor due to stress, pain, fetal pressure, etc., but the symptoms that occur before birth vary depending on the dog’s body type. Usually this type of breathing lasts about 30 to 40 minutes before the fetus is delivered. However, if the dog has not given birth for more than an hour, the dog may be in labor or have a respiratory disorder. There are usually other signs of labor, such as a slightly elevated body temperature of about 0.5 degrees Celsius, or agitation, frequent scratching of the floor or other objects with paws, and the dog’s breasts can squeeze out milk, and there is discharge from the pubic area after the amniotic fluid has broken, etc. If the dog has these signs before panting, the dog is indeed in labor. When the dog panting overnight and no puppy is born, it indicates that the dog has a difficult birth.
