What to do about cat crepuscular mites

The feline crepuscular mite is very similar to the canine crepuscular mite, with only minor taxonomic differences. The eggs are slender or oval in shape rather than spindle-shaped. All immature stages of feline crepuscular mites are more slender in form than canine crepuscular mites. Symptoms 1. Feline crepuscular mite disease caused by feline crepuscular mites is rare, with localized crepuscular mite lesions occurring on the eyelids and around the eyes, head and neck. The degree of itching is variable. Symptoms include erythema, dandruff, crusting and hair loss. Localized crepitant mite disease in cats is usually self-limiting. Examination for feline localized crepuscular mite disease presents only as ceruminous otitis externa.2. Systemic feline crepuscular mite disease is rare, but often less severe than the canine form. Purebred cats are susceptible. It usually develops first on the head and neck, and may later spread to the trunk and extremities. Lesions include erythema, flaking, crusting, hyperpigmentation, and desquamative patches or plaques.3. Itchiness is variable. Systemic feline crepitations often have underlying causes such as feline leukemia virus or feline immunodeficiency virus infection, diabetes mellitus, systemic lupus erythematosus, hyperadrenalism, and neoplastic disease. Of course, feline crepuscular mite disease may also be idiopathic. Diagnosis is usually confirmed after several careful deep-scratch examinations in which most wormy mites are visible. In cats, wormy mites can be detected mostly from within ear wax, but also from itchy abdominal skin or scales adhered with clear tape to obtain the worms. Cats can be cured with 0.03%-0.06% Amitraz bath once a week for 6-8 times, but more attention should be paid to the possibility of poisoning and monitoring to prevent recurrence. Treatment for localized lesions: acaricides such as rotenone, benzyl benzoate vinegar or benzoyl peroxide gel can be applied locally until the hair grows out. For systemic lesions: antibiotics if deep septicemia is present; gently reduce the hair on the affected area and remove the tangled crusts; bath with antiseptics and wash with shampoo; many drugs can be used for crepuscular mite disease, commonly used are sulfur lime solution. 2% sulfur lime solution, applied to cats, is both safe and economical. It can be medicated bath several times, once 5-7 days apart. High-dose ivermectin is effective: 1 mg/kg, injected subcutaneously and applied once at 1-2 weeks intervals, depending on the situation, usually 2 doses will have a significant effect. Lithosulfur compound or amitraz dip. Amitraz concentration is 125ppm or 250ppm, once a week. Some cats with systemic crepuscular mite disease are easier to treat than the canine type, probably because the parasitic sites of feline crepuscular mites are more superficial than those of dogs. Lithosulfur compounds and mild earworm killers can be tried to treat earworm mites. Pay attention to deworming your cat with medicated baths and daily rubbing of topical dewormers and oral antibacterial and deworming medications. Take care not to allow the cat to lick the medication, which can be easily poisoned.
