Male Cats in Heat Symptoms The first heat in male cats is usually around 6-8 months, and certain developmentally delayed breeds may be a little later. Male cats in heat will last about a week and come into heat every other week or so. When not in heat, a male cat may also come into heat when there is a female cat in heat nearby. The most obvious characteristic of male cats in heat is the urination behavior, the tendency to occupy territory and make marks, and the tendency to urinate on furniture or other objects. During estrus, male cats will stand, hold up their tails and spray urine on vertical objects, while spraying urine, their tails will shake and their reproductive system will be engorged with blood.
