How to see the age of a Dachshund To see the age of a Dachshund, you can tell by the teeth. Dachshunds will develop milk teeth after twenty days of life, replace them at three to four months, and slowly begin to grow permanent teeth. Dachshunds will have all of their milk teeth replaced and all of their permanent teeth by the time they are one month old. At three to four years of age, the teeth will have slight wear and tartar due to the lack of tooth replacement along the way. By the time the Dachshund is five to six years old, tooth wear is evident. By the time the Dachshund is seven or eight years old, the teeth will begin to fall out. At this point the Dachshund is also nearing the end of its life span.
