A dog’s false pregnancy will usually subside on its own after two to three weeks without treatment, so owners should not worry too much. It is best to put a hood on the dog and avoid the bitch from licking the breasts as that will promote lactation. It is also a good idea to put the dog’s doll away and let the dog calm itself down. Phenothiazine sedative medication should not be used on aggressive bitches, that promotes lactation, instead they should be kept in a quiet place. If the false pregnancy is prolonged, also consider whether the bitch is suffering from degenerative thyroid function and have her examined promptly at the hospital.
