Symptoms of eye nematodes in cats

When feeding kittens at home, it is important to pay attention to the hygiene of the cat’s eyes, otherwise eye worms can easily grow. If you observe that your cat’s eyeballs are flushed and your cat often scratches its eyes, you should be aware that your cat may have eye worms. Eye nematodes are very small and difficult to detect with the naked eye, so owners should pay attention to the cat’s eyes to see if there is often increased discharge and tears. Etiology Eye nematode infection or due to cat owners mistaking the capillaries of the eyes for worms. Cats infected with eye nematodes will have flushed conjunctiva, tearing, fear of bright light stimulation, and increased discharge. Symptoms 1. eye discomfort causing scratching in and around the eye. 2. some discharge around the eye, which may be purulent or yellow. 3. the surface of the eye will appear bloodshot and red. 4. the conjunctiva is red and edematous. 5. there is a thread-like object wriggling on the surface of the eye. When the cat shows these symptoms it must be dewormed as well as bring Elizabethan rings to control secondary infections in a timely manner. Treatment can be done at the vet hospital with deworming solution that is not stimulating to the cat’s eyes. After rinsing, eye drops to protect the eyes are given, or the worms can be surgically removed after anesthesia. If the cat is complicated by other diseases such as conjunctivitis or keratitis, symptomatic treatment should be actively taken to avoid deterioration of the eye condition. The disease can be transmitted and prevention should be done in general to keep the cat’s living environment clean and dewormed regularly. Treatment of nematodes in cats can be done with oral deworming medication containing levamisole. If the cat still pulls out nematodes after taking the dewormer, it is recommended to take the dewormer again every 2-3 days until no more worms are pulled out. Cats need to be careful not to overdose on oral deworming medication, otherwise it may cause discomfort or even poisoning to the cat. If an overdose is found, you need to induce vomiting immediately. Note that all cats have conjunctival sucking nematode infection, and as companion animals have a close relationship with people, in order to prevent companion animals from infecting people with worms, cat conjunctival sucking nematode disease should be promptly diagnosed and treated. When keeping cats, deworming needs to be done.
