Head

The head is prominent, straight and in proportion to the body. The length must be slightly more than 2/5 of the shoulder height, not too heavy or too big, but not too fine either. The skin must be well angulated underneath.

Skull: distinctive shape; width less than half the length of the head (the central axis forms an axial angle of approximately 16 to 18 degrees). When viewed from above, the entire skull is elliptical in the longitudinal direction with a slightly convex profile. The longitudinal axis is slightly divergent.

The eyes are arched above; moderately pronounced and covered with long hairs.

Forehead wrinkled, very wide between the eyes, tapering toward the occipital bone, very pronounced (miniatures will be less pronounced).

Stop: As in a medium sized dog, barely noticeable.

Nose: Conspicuous and well developed, with vertical occipital bones; nostrils open. Black, white and grey Poodle nose color is black; brown Poodle nose color is brown; apricot Poodle nose color is brown throughout the dark brown range and may be black, no best color, all acceptable, but avoid possible fading.

Muzzle: The upper profile is straight; the length of the muzzle is approximately 9/10 of the length of the skull.

The two branches of the lower jaw extend almost parallel to each other. The lower jaw rather than the upper lip margin outlines the lower contour of the muzzle.

Lips: Slightly developed, fairly tight, moderately thick, with the upper lip on the lower lip and not over the lower lip. Black, white and grey dogs have black lips; apricot dogs have the entire brown range of lip colors and may also be black, there is no optimum color, all are acceptable. The corners of the mouth must be pronounced.

Jaw / Teeth: Normal position and strong teeth. Lack of first or second molar in the upper jaw and second or third molar in the lower jaw will not receive a deduction in judging or breeding selection.

Face: not remarkable. The shape is outlined by the cheek bones. The external eye sockets are well defined but, only slightly sunken. Chewing muscles and cheek anatomical base are slightly developed; cheekbones have a very slight arch.

Eyes: With an eager expression, located at the level of the stop, slightly tilted.

The contour of the eyelids gives the eyes an almond shape. Black, white and grey Poodles and apricot Poodles have black or dark brown eyes; brown Poodles may have dark amber eyes.

Ears: Very long, drooping along the sides of the cheeks, located on an extension that begins at the top of the nose and passes below the outer corner of the eyes, flattened, widening behind the base of the ears, rounded at the tips and covered with long, curly hair. The ears of the Poodle do not reach the corners of the mouth and are not considered “excellent”.

Neck

Sturdy, slightly arched behind the neck, medium length and well proportioned. Enough to allow the head to be held high with dignity. No hanging flesh. Oval at the intersection of the neck; less than the length of the head.

Body: The Poodle has a well-proportioned overall trunk appearance, with the length of the trunk usually greater than the height of the shoulders.

Shoulders: Moderately developed back.

The backline is short and harmonious. Neither arched nor collapsed. The height from the ground to the shoulders is almost equal to the height from the ground to the hips.

Waist: firm and well muscled.

Hips; rounded but not sloping.

Thorax: descends to the level of the elbow and has a width equal to 2/3 of the depth (from the spine to the sternum.) The circumference of the thorax, measured from below the shoulder, should be at least 10 cm more than the height of the shoulder.

Ribs: rib cage oval, wide at the spine.

Prothorax: normal size; the end of the sternum must protrude slightly and be located fairly high to allow easy elevation of the head respectfully. Abdomen: folded up but not excessively.

Forequarters

Forelegs very straight, parallel to each other, elegant, well muscled and well boned. Elbow to ground height is 5/9 of shoulder to ground height. shoulders: sloping and well muscled. The scapula and upper limb form a 90° to 110° angle.

Upper Arm: The length of the upper limb corresponds to the length of the scapula. Joint: sturdy, but not massive, with an almost straight-looking profile.

Feet: rather small, thick, and ovoid in shape.

The toes are distinctly rounded and arched, strong, compact, webbed, and tightly attached to the hard, thick pads of the feet. Black and gray, black toenails for black dogs, brown toenails for brown dogs, and white dogs may have dark to black toenails throughout the keratinous color range, which must match their coat color. White toenails are still out of order. Apricot colored dogs have a range of toenail colors from dark brown to black, with no optimum color, and all colors in between are acceptable.

Hindquarters: When viewed from behind, the hind legs are straight, parallel to each other, well muscled and very pronounced. The fly joint has a distinct angle.

Lumbar joint: the angle made by the femur and the angle made by the tibia – hock must be very pronounced so as not to cause the hips to tilt in the case of some legs upright.

Thighs: muscular and strong. Fly joint: vertical. The Poodle should be born without wolf paws on the hind legs.

Tail

Located fairly high at the level of the waist. It is cut off 1/3 of the way from the body or, in the case of the Curly Poodle, at half the natural length of the tail. However, a long, upturned tail is not out of place. Corduroy Poodles may retain the entire length of the tail. The tail is tilted upward during exercise.
