Ticks live mainly in shady, moist places and are commonly found in areas with lots of grass and trees. Therefore when a dog goes to play in these places, the tick’s mouthparts latch onto the dog and the dog becomes infected with the tick. At this point it is recommended that the owner use alcohol to first paralyze the tick and then use tweezers to gently remove the insect. Since the tick’s mouthparts are relatively strong, the owner should not break them directly by hand, otherwise they will cause the mouthparts to remain inside the dog’s skin.
