The origin of the name of the Samoyed Samoyed name origin

The reason for the name Samoyed is that the dog was domesticated by the Samoans, a Siberian herding people, and was named after them, at a time when pulling sleds and guarding reindeer was its main job. The history and legends of the Samoyed began in the Iranian plateau: long ago, powerful tribes drove the weaker ones far away. The expelled tribes went all the way north, through China, to the vast tundra between the White Sea and the Yesseni River, and these were the Samoyeds, the earliest inhabitants of the Seyatas. Here they have lived a nomadic life, herding reindeer. The Samoans kept dogs to help them herd reindeer, pull sleds, and also to keep them company. Their dogs are the noble Samoyeds of today.
