The Miniature Schnauzer is an energetic and lively dog that belongs to the terrier family. Their appearance and personality are similar to the standard and giant schnauzers, alert and active. However, Miniature Schnauzers are generally smaller and pocket-sized. The Miniature Schnauzer has a solid body structure, with a near-square body, i.e., roughly equal in height and length, with plenty of bone mass. The shoulder height range is 12 inches to 14 inches, while being somewhat toylike. The Sheltie generally has a double coat, consisting of a hard outer bristle and a dense undercoat. The head, neck, ears, chest, tail and body need to be stripped. In the case of a racing schnauzer, the coat must be long enough to cover the neck, ears and head completely.
