Typically puppies will open their eyes around 7-14 days and walk around 30 days of age. Due to the different physical development of puppies, the time of eye opening and walking may not be consistent. Dogs do not open their eyes all at once, they take their time, and puppies who have just opened their eyes should avoid bright light stimulation, just like children. However, if the puppy has not opened its eyes 18 days after birth, the owner needs to take the puppy to the vet for an eye examination to see if it is a congenital eye disease, before then it is not recommended that the owner break the puppy’s eyes. Puppies not walking after 30 days of age also need to be examined for bone and muscle.
