Cats can be injured in life because of curiosity or inattention to safety. Although cats are strong jumpers, they will inevitably fall and cause fractures, which may not happen to your cat, but it is always good to take precautions, so we can learn more about it first. Manifestation The affected part of the cat is swollen in soft tissue, painful and restless, howling or moaning, muscle trembling, sweating and dysfunction. Local bone deformation, abnormal activity, pressure pain when touched, bone fracture can be felt, and there is a friction sound at the same time, but there is no bone friction sound when the fracture is not complete or the bone is separated far from the broken end. If it occurs in the extremities, the activity is abnormal, the sick cat is lame and has difficulty in standing, the open fracture is locally traumatized and bleeding, and some can see bone ballast or the broken end of the bone protruding from the wound; some can cause hemorrhagic anemia and even death by shock. The treatment is based on fixation and rehabilitation, together with appropriate exercise and drug therapy. 2. Rehabilitation: the dislocated bone can be restored to its original position by manipulation, which can be performed under general or local anesthesia to reduce the cat’s pain. The earlier the reinstatement, the better. 3. Fixation: Immediately after the rectification, the fixation site should be fixed, cut hair, lined with skimmed cotton, and fixed with bamboo plates (wooden plates), metal braces, plaster bandages, etc. Treatment Pharmacotherapy For open fractures, before and after revision and fixation, the wound should be continuously controlled with antibiotics or sulfonamides to prevent secondary infection. Rehabilitation method 1, determine the location of the fracture if the cat is not traumatized, the injured cat can be gently placed down and gently touched from the spine to the extremities, if the fracture is touched the cat will generally scream. If the cat has trauma, the cat should be cleared to stop the bleeding. Cat trauma debridement can use 3% hydrogen peroxide, note that cats are sensitive to iodine, so trauma debridement must not use tincture of iodine. 2, bone jointing (fixed section) bone jointing (fixed section) is the key to success or failure in treating fractures in cats, if you can not do the bone jointing, it is best to ask experienced people to help, generally even the countryside can find the treatment of human bone jointers, you can ask them to help. 3, fixed fracture site First apply anti-inflammatory medicine to the injury and wrap the fracture site tightly with sterile gauze, but be careful not to strangle it to prevent poor blood flow to the cat, it can be wrapped around 5 turns. Then find a board of suitable length and size for the cat’s injury and fix the fracture site with gauze so that the cat cannot move and bend the fracture site. 4. Inject and take anti-inflammatory drugs After fixing the injury site, you need to inject or take anti-inflammatory drugs regularly to avoid fever and wound infection and inflammation. You can go to the pharmacy to buy 0.5g of cephalosporin and lidocaine hydrochloride injection, mix thoroughly and take half of the dose for the cat to inject subcutaneously. The anti-inflammatory injection is best given once a day. Note that if you encounter a fracture in a cat, you should be aware that there may be complications after treatment, and that late care is very important to help the cat recover and nutritious meals are very important, so I hope that the owner will keep in mind these points.
