Cat moss is usually caused by Microsporum spp. and Trichophyton spp. and is usually widespread in nature. The infection may occur due to a change in environment, weaning of kittens and other reasons that may cause a decrease in resistance. Because microsporidia are present at the hair roots, they can spread in large numbers to other areas when the hair is broken.
