What to do if your dog has a hard time giving birth

In the event of a difficult birth, it is advisable to go to the vet immediately for a caesarean section. The longer a difficult birth takes, the more likely it is to endanger the life of the mother and puppies. Dogs have a gestation period of around two months and can become irritable and use clothing as a litter before they are about to give birth. If you have not seen your puppy born for an hour after finding out that the water has broken, then there is a high probability of a difficult birth and immediate medical attention is recommended.
