What to do if your dog has a fever

There are many causes of fever in dogs. If the body temperature is within 39.5°C and the dog is in good spirits, you can treat it conservatively at home by giving it more water and putting some of its usual favourite food in the water. See if it returns to normal. If it does not improve within 8 hours or 24 hours, send it to the doctor for examination. If the temperature is 39.5°C or above, or if other abnormal symptoms appear at the same time as the fever, send the dog to hospital for examination and treatment.
