The most commonly used is the clinical significance of the progesterone test: in the pre-estrus period, with a general cycle of 7d to 10d, serum progesterone levels in dogs are low 10ng/ml. In the estrus period, with a general cycle of 7 to 8d serum progesterone will gradually increase. In the 1st to 2nd d of oestrus, it will reach 10 to 30ng/ml (early oestrus). On the 3rd to 4th day of oestrus, it will reach 30-50ng/ml (early follicular maturation). On the 5th to 6th day of oestrus, the progesterone level reaches 50 to 80 ng/ml (ovulation). The optimal mating period is based on this base, which varies according to the type and physical characteristics of the bitch. However the progesterone level in dogs can also be affected by body type.
