Canine Parvovirus CPV belongs to the family Parvoviridae, the genus Parvovirus. CPV is highly resistant to a wide range of physical and chemical factors and commonly used disinfectants and survives for 6 months at 4-10°C, 2 weeks at 37°C, 24 hours at 56°C and 15 minutes at 80°C. Infectivity decreases only mildly when stored at room temperature for 3 months and can survive in faeces for months to years. The virus is resistant to ether, chloroform and alcohols. It is sensitive to ultraviolet light, formalin, sodium hypochlorite and oxidising agents.
