The early signs of rabies are the symptoms that precede the onset of typical rabies symptoms and are also called the prodromal phase of rabies. Some of the symptoms in the prodromal phase are not specific, such as a low fever, a low temperature, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or vomiting. Relatively specific symptoms can occur in the central nervous system, i.e. the brain, such as pain in the posterior occipital region or drowsiness. A more specific symptom is the appearance of a sensation of tightness in the throat due to sensitivity to stimuli such as sound, light and wind, when consciousness is clear.
