There are a total of 50 small dog breeds recognised by the AKC: Poodle/Teddy, Bichon Frise, Pomeranian, Chihuahua, Yorkshire, Poodle, Miniature Schnauzer, West Highland, Welsh Corgi, French Bulldog, Pug, Butterfly, Japanese Pointer, Pekingese, Maltese, Dachshund, Miniature Pinscher, Shih Tzu and other breeds. Small dogs are a good choice for domestication, being smaller in size and requiring less time to care for.
