Treatment of feline infectious peritonitis

Treatment of infectious peritonitis in cats. Firstly, immune suppression and anti-inflammatory therapy with high doses of steroids and cytotoxic drugs. Secondly, prevention of secondary bacterial infections, broad-spectrum antibiotics, antivirals. Third, supportive therapy. Forced feeding (by oesophageal or gastric tube), fluids to correct dehydration, thoracentesis to soothe respiratory symptoms. It is often said that prevention is better than cure. For the prevention of this disease, in addition to the vaccine, management of the housing environment and regular serum antibody testing are also important. The vaccine is administered intranasally to cats over 16 weeks of age, with two doses given 3-6 weeks apart and no more than 8-16 cats living in the whole area. Keep the colony under 3-4 cats and keep them indoors as much as possible, with litter boxes and the environment cleaned daily.
